Janet Abernathy of 4400 Overglen Avenue, died Sunday, January 15, 2012.  Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Allen officiating. Burial will be in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. Friends may visit with the family from 7-8:30 Monday evening, January 16, 2012 at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main St., Wake Forest, NC 27587 (919-556-5811) and at the home of her mother, Virginia Hall, 121 Barclay Road, Durham, NC at other times.

Update: Beautification Project

The Beautification Committee project at the corner of Shearon Farms Avenue and Precious Stone Drive is almost complete.  The final steps to complete the project will include mulching the area between the sidewalk and fence line along Shearon Farm Avenue and planting grass at the corner of Precious Stone Drive.  

Thank you to the Beautification Committee – especially Pat & Flo Kandefer and Harvey Ridder – for all of the hard work and dedication to this beautiful project.  Job well done!

Winterization Tip: Close foundation vents for winter

In order for insulation to perform at its best, moisture must be removed with ventilation. In the winter, the insulation keeps heat in and open vents prevent moisture buildup. In the summer, ventilation carries off warm air.

HOA Annual Assessment Notification

The FY12 budget was ratified by the homeowners at the annual budget meeting on December 7, 2011. The annual assessment will cover the 18 month timeframe from July 1, 2011 and December 31, 2012.  Notifications will be sent to homeowners this week and is due no later than March 31, 2012.  If you have any questions, please contact president@shearonfarms.com.

Happy Holidays!

Winter Yard Of The Season

Congratulations to Jeff and Angela Altice of 9728 Corktree Court!  Their house was selected as the winner of the “Yard of the Season” and awarded a $50 gift card.  A special mention to the fantastic display by Balloon Design Decorating Service for the really cool candy canes balloons.  Our next competition winner will be announced in March 2012.  Best of luck!

Luminary Night – December 24, 2011 at 6:00 PM

This year will mark the first, annual Shearon Farms Luminary illumination organized by the single-family Outreach Committee. On the day of the event, a white paper bag with a wooden candle base and candle will be placed along your curb on December 24th and at 6:00 PM we wish for all that desire to help, light your respective bags and those of any neighbors not able to do so. This will enable the neighborhood to be illuminated as quickly as possible for all to enjoy the entire evening. The next day, all bags, candles and bases will be collected. If you wish to clean up the luminaries yourself, please do not dispose of the bases. Please gather the bases for a committee member to collect near the end of your driveway, they are reusable. The paper bags can be recycled and candles can be kept for further use or thrown away. If you wish to help, in any capacity, please notify a member of the Outreach Committee from your respective street.

Toys-for-Tots Location

The Shearon Farms Toys-for-Tots collection point is at 9704 Corktree Court.  If you would like participate in the program, you can donate a new, unwrapped gift for the less fortunate children in our local community.

Annual HOA Budget Meeting

As we prepare for FY12, the Board of Directors is planning to request the Shearon Farms Single Family Homeowners Association (HOA) to vote on an annual assessment increase beginning January, 2012.  The projected expense budget will be used for community related activities such as neighborhood improvements, social and community outreach events.   As a reminder, the annual assessment in FY11 was suspended.  

Also, the Board of Directors have received numerous requests from members of our community to do some “major neighborhood improvements” such as updating all of the single family section of the neighborhood with new decorative light posts and fixtures.  These types of requests would be handled outside of the annual budget and would result in a special assessment as well as a special vote from the members of HOA.    

Attendance of all members of the HOA is strongly encouraged so please plan now to attend the meeting and cast your vote.  Please see the meeting details below:

Beautification Project Underway

As stated during our 2011 annual budget meeting, improvements to the neighborhood are a primary focus of the Board of Directors. Our first  improvement project is currently underway at the corner of Shearon Farms Avenue and Precious Stone Drive.

The Board of Directors would like to thank the Beautification Committee for the support initiating, planning and executing the project.
